Emily Ashcroft - 90s Colour Shoot.

Behind The Scenes - Emily Ashcroft
from Joel Mcloughlin on Vimeo.
Video was also courtesy of my friend Joel, he's a babe.

This is the first time I have worked with Emily on a shoot and I was really pleased with the results. She came up with a load of great ideas she wanted to work around based on idea of the Jeremy Scott Fall 2011 Ready-to-wear collection (check it out here) The idea was to involve lots of bold block colours, very 90s themed with my hair in smooth silky pigtails and dip dyed ends! Check more of her work out www.emilyashcroft.com

She really is a fantastic photographer and I foresee great things for her! The styling on the shoot was by Joel McLoughlin (http://thehallowedground.blogspot.com/) who is one of best friends a budding stylist! We managed to get a selection of outfits between us - from the amazing turquoise/purple hockey jersey we found in a vintage shop for £3 (amazing) to vintage electric blue dungarees... and the pièce de résistance -  the incredible acid wash jeweled Barbie Jacket which Joel Managed to track down - it truly was the best thing I've ever seen ever!

I LOVE CARBOOT SALES!

Joel & his new furby 'Momo'

Believe it or not my ultimate downfall is carboot sales! I started going last summer and although I haven't been to that many since, everytime I go I become 'a crazy gypsy lady' according to my friends. I'm a lover of bargains and I really appreciate the idea of 'second hand' whether it be vintage shops/charity shops/markets or carboots! Afterall... it's all the same. You can end up paying a pricey amount in a vintage shop for something which will be sold in a charity shop for about a quarter of the price... they can just bump the prices up because it's a boutique shop and silly people are willing to pay!

Carboot is an absolute treat. The amount of things you can find is amazing... because it's basically a bit jumble. Ok, there is a load of crap on sale and junk that you wonder why people are even bothering to try and shift... but you can find some treasures! I've found a number of cameras for about 50p, including an kodak instamatic, polaroid and one of those lomography cameras that take four pictures at a time (which I have yet to use but i'm very excited about it!). As my mum would say, one mans meat is another mans poisin... so if you have lots of stuff to get rid of.. don't just dump it in the tip, have a sale yourself and give it a second home!

We Are Dip Dye Queens

My friend Ema visited me in Liverpool this weekend all the way from London. Amongst, our activities we did a bit of hair dying and she helped me dip-dye my virgin hairturquoise! I've never dyed my hair before, and because it's so dark I had to bleach it (lots) first.

Equipt with bleaching powder, peroxide and plenty of foil we proceeded to section my hair as Ema painted on the gloopy blue mixture, eventually my tips turned blonde (well, yellow..) after a lengthy process of waiting, heating, and washing I added the turquoise dye. Unfortunately this dye is only semi permanent, I used DIRECTIONS dye which comes in a selection of colours (pictured above) so I'll have to keep topping up (before my hair goes green) but it comes out a beautiful bright turquoise colour on first application! You can buy it either offline or from hair shops such as Paul's hair world or in more alternative places like Aflex Palace.

I don't know what my mum will make of it but I love it! It's super long at the moment, and frankly a bit of a mess but I don't care. I feel like a mermaid.

Hello 2011

Resolutions : stay clear of take away and boys.

New year was a hilariously drunken event as per-usual, can't say I remember things too clearly but I'm pretty sure that's a sign of a goodnight. Brought in the new year with my favourite people, it was just nice to have everyone together again, it's so hard to get everyone in one place these days since we all started university, should really learn to treasure moments like this

I can't believe that it's the new year already, it's all a bit surreal how fast the last year has past and all the things that have gone on in between. Time passes but memories are the things we can hold on to and I plan to make many more. I hope to be more spontaneous this year, take chances and not end up regretting what I didn't do. I know everyone says this every year but I definitely think this is gonna be a good year for me. I'm at university now, I'm a student and I'm ready to start making better decisions about my life. No doubt I'll make some bad decisions along the way but I guess mistakes are what make us. I just hope to make less of them this year and learn from my past mistakes.

Anyway, here's to twenty-eleven (doesn't quite have the same ring to it as twenty-ten though)
To making better decisions. To having fun and to making plenty more memories, amen.
